Description It took me SIX WHOLE YEARS to finalise the perfect conditioner formulation to go alongside Leafology’s beloved powder-to-shampoo, and we humbly(?) believe this, too, is in a class of its own. Made with hair-health-boosting ingrediens such as hibiscus (queen of wonder-ingredients for hair in India), organic brown rice, marshmallow root, hyaluronic acid, rosemary, vit B3 and – bear with me – potatoes, I carefully chose ingredients which are destined to create natural ‘slip’ (the oh-so-important quality of a conditioner to work its magic on tangled, knotty hair) and a luxurious, silky feel. This stuff packs your hair full of (food-grade) vitamins, minerals & moisturising magic. Unlike many conditioner bars (the main other alternative to plastic bottles of conditioner), it’s soap-free & leaves no greasy residue/tackiness afterwards. No more struggling to create cream from a solid bar; instead, welcome to the world of what we lovingly call instant ‘pink mud’. Leaves hair light, clean, bouncy & soft! Being liquid free makes the Hibiscus Dream extra travel friendly, and far better value for money than a conventional conditioner, since you get the concentrated active ingredients without water or filler bulking out the volume (after all, the first ingredient listed in most conditioners is ‘aqua’, since they are mostly comprised of water and ingredients must legally be listed by weight in descending order; please scroll down to read ours, in comparison!); you create the hair-softening goodness each time you use the Hibiscus Dream Hair Potion by mixing it with water in your hand. ‘This is so exciting!’ Soothing for all, including sensitive skin/scalps. The Hibiscus Dream is suitable for those suffering with eczema, psoriasis and other sensitive skin/scalp conditions (though this is not a medicated product). Please also read this post. REFILLS/BULK: Choose from the drop-down options when adding to your basket either the metal tin or a larger amount mailed to you in a paper bag for you to refill your empty bottle at home. We strongly recommend that you immediately decant the contents into a clean & completely dry glass jar, to eliminate the chance of moisture entering the product & to preserve its freshness. Being water-free, the formulation is stable for a long time, just take care to keep it sealed against moisture. Then: keep the jar somewhere cool, out of direct sunlight, so it can sleep peacefully until you need it. Please note that, in keeping with the law and regulations around cosmetic products, we will affix the original label to your paper bag and hand-write the weight you’ve ordered (which may be different to what the label says) onto the bag. Key ingredients/benefits: HIBISCUS: this is what gives the potion its beautiful, soft pink colour, which becomes more vivid when wet. The use of the hibiscus flower has been associated strongly with hair length and stimulation of dormant follicles. It is rich in vitamin C, which boosts collagen (the amino acid chain that gives your hair its strength) production, strengthening roots and keeping hair lustrous. POTATO STARCH: can help smooth the hair cuticle, reducing frizz and enhancing shine. Gentle and non-irritating, it also creates a beautiful, slippery texture when wet, which helps create & thicken the creamy (but not ‘tacky’) consistency we need when stroking the Hibiscus Dream through our hair. Potatoes naturally contain small amounts of B vitamins (such as niacin and folate) and minerals like potassium, iron, and zinc, which may support scalp health and nourishment when used topically. AMLA: also known as Indian gooseberry, Amla is a fruit rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and essential minerals that has long been used in Ayurvedic hair care. When applied as a conditioning agent, it helps strengthen hair follicles, reduce breakage, and promote healthy growth. Its high vitamin C content supports collagen production, while antioxidants protect the scalp and strands from oxidative stress. Additionally, amla’s natural conditioning properties add shine, softness, and manageability to the hair. NIACINAMIDE (VITAMIN B3): a form of vitamin B3, niacinamide is a water-soluble nutrient known for its strengthening and restorative properties in skin and hair care. When used as a conditioning agent on hair, it can help improve elasticity, enhance smoothness, and support keratin production, which is essential for strong, resilient strands. Niacinamide also promotes better scalp health by supporting the skin barrier and improving circulation, creating an optimal environment for healthy hair growth. ORGANIC COCONUT MILK: this beautifully sweet-smelling fruit is very nourishing, for shine and conditioning. Some hair types may find that this component of the Renaissance is enough to mean they do not need to follow with conditioner, though drier hair types may disagree. Full of fatty acids and other nutrients, coconut is soothing for scalps and very moisturising. HYALURONIC ACID: Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body, known for its ability to retain moisture. When used in hair care, it offers a range of benefits, particularly for dry or damaged hair. Its strongly hydrating properties help to lock in moisture, reducing frizz and leaving hair feeling softer and more manageable. By improving scalp hydration, hyaluronic acid can also create a healthier environment for hair growth and help soothe irritation or dryness. Especially beneficial during colder months when hair tends to lose moisture more easily. RICE: amino acids, B vitamins, vitamin E… bathing hair in rice water has long been believed to help hair grow long, shiny, strong and smooth. It also gives a creamy texture to the shampoo which, in addition to the coconut, feels wonderful. The starch may also help those with dermatitis; it’s very soothing. ALOE VERA: Rich in vitamins A, C, and E, aloe vera helps promote healthy cell growth, leading to stronger, shinier hair. Its natural enzymes can soothe an itchy scalp and reduce dandruff by gently cleansing the scalp and removing excess oil. Helps to moisturise & condition the hair, leaving it soft, smooth, and more manageable. BLACK SEED: a natural hair tonic traditionally used to promote hair length. It’s naturally anti-fungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial; perfect prevention/help for skin conditions. A snippet of plant-knowledge wisdom if ever there was one: ‘Use the Black Seed for indeed, it is a cure for all diseases except death.’ ABYSSINIAN OIL: Both luxurious and light, it contains a high percentage of an Omega-9 fatty acid that helps to give hair a glossy feel and suppleness. MATCHA GREEN TEA: see this page for a rundown of why tea is in every product in the Leafology range. With caffeine, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions, green tea leaves are a boost for healthy hair. SHIKAKAI: is a climbing shrub native to Asia, translated as ‘fruit for hair’ and used as a hair cleanser in parts of India for centuries, it adds shine and softness, helps fight dandruff and it is even claimed to help delay grey hairs (though personally, if you’ve earned your greys, I say embrace them!). It imparts a thicker, detangling texture to the blend and soothes scalps. ROSEMARY: stimulates the follicles and scalp and boosts circulation. Its antibacterial properties make it a good cleanser. Rosemary was highly valued in ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt for it’s clarifying, healing, soothing properties. LAVENDER, ROSEMARY, ORANGE & HO LEAF ESSENTIAL OILS: As well as being the queen of relaxing oils, lavender is antibacterial, calming, helps control dandruff, conditions the hair and adds shine. Orange adds a pleasing ‘brightness’ to the scent (it’s one of the happiest fragrances there is!). Rosemary is widely known to be a star ingredient for hair, antibacterial, stimulating and clarifying. Ho leaf (a gentle, woody floral scent) is soothing and nourishing. Uses & Directions: Can be used as frequently as you wash your hair, after shampooing (in place of your usual conditioner) and also as an intensive, moisturising hair ‘pack’ or ‘mask’. To use as a conditioner: 1. Wash hair. 2. Carefully tap a small amount of powder into the palm of your hand (how much you need will vary according to the length and thickness of your hair; as a guide, you might try somewhere from a heaped teaspoon to half a tbsp). 3. Gradually add a few splashes of water onto the powder, until you can stir it into a paste with your finger. (Go slowly until you have the knack; you want it to be a thick but spreadable ‘mud’) 4. Use your palms in a ‘praying’ motion to stroke through the lengths of your hair, gently detangling your hair with your fingers if needed. (Focus on the ends or areas of the hair which need conditioning/softening – can also be used directly on the scalp for soothing and moisturising the skin.) 5. Rinse thoroughly to leave hair clean & soft. To use as a moisturising, intensive mask: Apply as above, thickly, but leave on for 10 minutes, or overnight (wrap your hair in a towel to protect your pillowcase) before rinsing. … To follow, I like to stroke pure (natural) aloe vera gel through my hair for a bit of curl definition that doesn’t look too stiff or over-styled, along with a small amount of the Shine Elixir Hair Food & Tea & Rice Bran Curl Butter through the ends to add definition and shine as it dries.
